The Division of Clinical Health
Services plans and coordinates
primary and preventive managed
health care services at our
Centers for residents of Palm
Beach County who meet eligibility
requirements. Services are
provided by a caring professional
team of medical providers
including physician, physician
assistants, advanced registered
nurse practitioners, nurses,
dentist nutritionists, health
educators, psychologists, social
workers and health support staff.

Community Health
The Community Health Division was
established to support the
agency's strategic goals "Focus
on prevention" and "Visionary
Community Health Planning."
The program within the division
carries out essential public
health services and activities.

Environmental
Health
The work of the Environmental
Health Department touches the
lives of every citizen of Palm
Beach County as they monitor the
Air Quality, drinking water,
solid, hazardous and biomedical
waste,
recreational water, waste
water, child care licensing,
biological and
chemical laboratory testing, St.
Louis Encephalitis surveillance,
body piercing parlors, and conduct
food and water borne
investigations.

Dental Health
Dental preventive care is the
focus of the dental health
program. Not only are
services provided to 28.5%of the
low income persons living in the
area the department oversees and
monitors the "Swish" program in 53
schools. It has six portable
dental chairs available in the
community schools to do screenings
and cavity preventing dental care.
Over 50,000 persons in Palm Beach
County have received some form of
direct benefit through the efforts
of the Dentist, Hygienists and
staff associated with this
department. Another 160,000
residents now have fluoridated
water and more will be receiving
this cavity fighting benefit in
the near future.

Nutrition
|
Nutritional Services works with all aspects
of the counties population to provide assessment, counseling, education and staff development as it relates to
nutrition. This department not only works to coordinate the special nutritional programs under
WIC it also provides community education in
schools, cardiovascular disease prevention, community wellness programs and operates the dietetic internship program.

Healthy
Start/Healthy Families Nurses
| Also known as
Healthy Start these nurses provide pre and postnatal. Screening, to give pregnant and woman with newborns the necessary evaluations and information on social, environmental and physical needs for
themselves, their baby and other family members. These nurses serve over 12,000 clients annually to assure all babies get a "Healthy Start".

School Health
School
Health promotes student health
through preventive care activities
in every school. Implementation
occurs through the school nurse
program, immunizations, health
screenings, educational encounters
and physicals The Palm Beach
County Health Department currently
supervises the administration of
the school health program.
The day to day operations and
majority of funding is coordinated
by the
Heath Care
District which hires
school nurses, supervisors and
other personnel.

Epidemiology & Disease Control
Epidemiology and Disease Control
conducts surveillance to detect
events of public health
significance and to investigate
diseases/conditions
reportable by state law. Staff
members are available to provide
consultation and information on
disease related and other public
health issues to residents,
visitors and medical providers.
What is “epidemiology?”
Epidemiology is the study of how
disease is distributed in
populations and the factors that
determine this distribution. By
increasing our understanding of
health and disease we can
improve our community’s health
and prevent disease. Our primary
focus is the prevention of
illness, disease, disability and
death.

HIV/AIDS/STD/TB
The
HIV/STD/TB clinic has truly four distinct
divisions and serves to treat and
educate persons with communicable
diseases like Tuberculosis,
AIDS/HIV, Sexually Transmitted
Diseases and Hepatitis C.
