PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL—So
far, the reported cases of
influenza in Florida and
throughout the county have
been very mild. But
historical data shows the
majority of cases show up
each year from Mid February
to Mid March. People still
have time to keep the mild
trend going by getting a
preventive flu shot.
The Palm Beach County Health
Department is offering flu
shots on three dates at the
South Florida Fair; January
13, 17 and 20 from 11 AM to
5 PM on each of the days.
There is no charge for the
vaccine but, persons will
have to obtain an admission
ticket to the Fair.
“Every year people get the
flu causing them to miss
work or school,” said Health
Department Director Dr.
Alina Alonso. “And the flu
can lead to more severe
complications that can
result in hospitalization or
even death. A flu shot is an
excellent preventive
measure.”
According to the Centers for
Disease Control and
Prevention over 30,000
people die in the United
State every year from
complications associated
with the flu. Other
preventive measures
recommended by CDC are:
Completely cover nose and
mouth when sneezing or
coughing to prevent germs
from going air borne, wash
hands with soap and water or
use a hand sanitizer when
not available, properly
dispose of used tissues, and
stay home if you are sick.
Flu shots are available
throughout the county at
physicians’ offices,
pharmacies, walk-in clinics
and other health related
facilities. To find a flu
shot location call 211.
